Legal Billing Specialist
Morris James LLP, a leading Delaware law firm with approximately 60 attorneys and six offices, has an immediate opening for a Legal Billing Specialist in its Wilmington office located at 500 Delaware Ave. The Billing Specialist works under the direction of the Director of Finance and will primarily focus on client billing while assisting with other accounting responsibilities as needed.
The ideal candidate will be a self-motivated person with the ability to multi-task and prioritize under tight deadlines. This position requires a pro-active candidate possess excellent interpersonal, communication (written and oral) as well as analytical skills to effectively work with and support a diverse group of clients, attorneys, and staff personnel. An excellent working knowledge of MS Word and Excel is necessary. Previous legal billing experience preferred. A degree in accounting or equivalent combination of education and law firm experience is ideal.
The hours for this full-time, non-exempt position are 8:30 am – 5:00 pm., Monday-Friday with some occasional overtime during peak periods. Salary commensurate with experience.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities include but not limited to the following:
*Process on-demand monthly & quarterly pre-bill/invoice requests
*Monitor unallocated funds
*Application of escrow and trust funds
*Processing of write-offs, write-downs, and premiums
*Research and resolve billing issues and inquiries
*Work with LEDES files and electronic billing on multiple platforms
*Prepare reports as requested for review by the attorneys, Chief Operating Officer or Director of Finance
*Provide support and assistance to address other accounting responsibilities as needed by the Director of Finance
Skills:
*Strong analytic and problem-solving skills
*Ability to interpret data produced by research
*Ability to organize and prioritize numerous projects/tasks simultaneously and complete them under time constraints to meet deadlines
*Must be detail-oriented and demonstrate ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment
*Excellent interpersonal and communication (written and oral) skills
*Strong customer-service-oriented approach
*Ability to exercise initiative and good judgement to work independently as appropriate and as a member of a team
*Ability to use discretion and maintain confidential information
Qualifications:
*Familiarity with law firm accounting responsibilities, ideally with experience in the handling of legal billing, E-billing
*Aderant Expert and workflow experience is a plus
*Must be computer literate with strong working knowledge of MS Word and Excel
*Flexibility to work overtime on an as-needed basis to meet deadlines
*College degree in accounting preferred, but not mandatory
*May be required to retrieve and distribute files, written documents, or office supplies weighing up to 10 pounds
