Kootenai Electric Cooperative is located in scenic North Idaho, the heart of abundant recreational opportunities. Settled in a beautiful lakefront mountain setting, it is a favorite destination for tourists. Just outside our back door are national forests, lakes, rivers, and trails offering plenty of opportunities for hiking, biking, boating/water sports, fishing, hunting, golfing, snow sports, and much more. The four distinct seasons offer recreational opportunities year-round.
The Coeur d'Alene/Hayden metropolitan area also offers a variety of entertainment and shopping venues and is a short 45-minute drive to Spokane, Washington and access to domestic and international air travel.
The purpose of the Engineer I is to provide technical engineering support to the Cooperative.

Job Responsibilities / Essential Functions:
- Performs electric system analysis and design.
- Assists in development of system planning documents.
- Assists with development of material and equipment specifications and purchase contracts.
- Assists with system protection and addresses system coordination issues.
- Assists with specification of new and/or upgraded member services.
- Assists with design of various capital system improvements as required such as substations, transmission lines, communications facilities, and power distribution facilities.
- Assists with settings, program and test electronic recloser controls, voltage regulator controls, PLC's, relays and other electronic equipment.
- Meets with members on technical issues.
- Tracks outages and develops monthly and annual outage statistics.
- Provides engineering support on capital projects.
- Coordinates and cooperates with all KEC personnel, the membership, local city, county, and state personnel, other utilities, contractors and vendors as needed.
- Provides generation scheduling when power plant operator unable to.
- Tracks analyzes and adjusts generation scheduling as needed.
Non-essential functions:
- Performs other duties as directed or required.
Job Requirements Education/Experience:
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering.
- Passed the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) test or pass within 2 years of employment.
Knowledge and Skills:
- Computer literate.
- Must be knowledgeable of standard office software including but not limited to: MS Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Valid Driver's License Time Requirements
- Must be available to work in excess of 12 hours during outage situations.
- Must be available for unscheduled work.
- May be required to be on-call 24/7.
Mental Demands:
- Must be able to work in stressful conditions.
- Must be able to make decisions with minimal data.
- Must be able to compare, copy, compute, compile, analyze, coordinate, and synthesize.
