Building Inspector
Position Summary General Statement of Duties: Performs inspections on a variety of new and existing industrial, commercial and residential properties for compliance with codes, installation and safety regulations in at least two disciplines. i.e. building, energy, mechanical, electrical or plumbing. Performs other duties as required or assigned.
Distinguishing Features of The Class: The principal function of an employee in this class is to inspect new and existing industrial, commercial and residential properties for compliance with building codes. The work is performed under the supervision and direction of the Building Inspector Supervisor, but considerable leeway is granted for the exercise of independent judgment and initiative. This class is distinguished from other Inspection classes by the performance of complex building inspections including structural. The nature of the work performed requires that an employee in this class establish and maintain effective working relationships with the Building Official, other City employees, Government Officials, contractors, sub-contractors, and the public. The principal duties of this class are performed in a general office and field environment.
