Hiring Range: $19.00 – $24.27 per hour, DOE
Salary Range: $19.00 – $28.49 per hour, DOE
Job Summary:
Under the general direction of the Recreation Coordinator (Sports), the
an employee is responsible for coordinating and assisting with the implementation of
community recreation programs. Work includes the organizing and promoting of sports
leagues and tournaments, the maintaining of program and facility safety, and
supervision of related personnel. Work is reviewed through performance evaluations of
accomplished goals, projects, and programs.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Plans and implements community recreation programs that include adult and youth
sports leagues and tournaments to meet the needs of the community;
Communicates with program staff to ensure that program guidelines and rules are
followed;
Assists with onsite operations and facility preparation for sports leagues and
tournaments;
Meets regularly with the Recreation Coordinator (Sports) and Recreation Site
Supervisor to coordinate staff and operational logistics for sports programs;
Works closely with other internal staff responsible for scheduling Parks and Recreation
Department facilities to coordinate the blocking and scheduling of those facilities for
sports programs;
Assists in the hiring of new employees and training and developing staff;
Supervises the work of full time, part-time and seasonal staff and provides written and
verbal reports to the Recreation Coordinator (Sports) on staff performance;
Reviews and recommends to the Recreation Coordinator (Sports) that eligible
applicants are hired and that subordinate employees be transferred, suspended,
promoted, terminated, reassigned or disciplined in the best interest of the program unit
and the department;
Assists in the coordination of community-wide fundraising activities to support and
expand leisure service programs;
Prepares publicity on recreational activities and programs; solicits active interest,
participation and support of neighborhood and community groups.
Prepares individual program budgets and recommends to the Recreation Coordinator
(Sports) fee amounts to be proposed in the department’s fee schedule;
Performs inspections of athletic fields and other recreational facilities; checks operation,
condition, safety, and security of equipment and facilities; coordinates periodic
maintenance and repair of equipment and facilities with department maintenance
personnel. Reports issues to the Recreation Coordinator (Sports);
Responds to inquiries and complaints from the general public;
Assists with the soliciting of sponsorships for sports leagues and tournaments and
arranges for the fulfillment of sponsorship obligations such as hanging on-site banners;
Assist as a back-up receptionist and telephone console operator, receiving and
transferring of incoming calls, taking telephone registration information, and provides
general department information as required.
Assists as a back-up evening site supervisor to set up and take down facilities.

Job Specifications:
Bachelor’s Degree in Recreation or Leisure Services, Sports Management, Physical
Education, or related field of study not required, but is preferred;
Must be CPR and First Aid certified or the ability to become certified within 90 days of
hire, have good public relations skill, and be a good organizer;
Must be able to frequently work evenings and weekends;
Must display an attitude of cooperation and the ability to work well with others and work
as a team player;
Ability to act in an emergency;
Ability to communicate with management, co-workers and the general public with respect
and in a pleasant, courteous manner;
Integrity in the performance of assigned tasks.
Must be able to use the department’s registration software or learn to use in first 6
months of position.
Work Environment & Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of the job, the employee is exposed to temperature
changes, night lighting and is subject to outside environmental conditions;
Constantly requires clarity of speech and hearing, which permits the employee to
communicate effectively;
Constantly requires sufficient personal mobility and physical reflexes, which permits the
employees to function in an outside environment to accomplish tasks.
Constantly requires driving a motor vehicle.
Frequently requires lifting and moving up to 50 to 100 pounds.
